Advising

All Business Students

Students planning to attend an in-state university should complete the requirements for the two-year Associates in Business (ABUS) degree.  With that degree, highschool admissions requirements are waived at ASU.  Also, as per State law, students following the ABUS transfer pathway may transfer to any public university in the State without loss of credit.  Many private universities also participate in this state transfer program.  You also will have earned a two-year degree in Business, which you may include on your resume.  For more information on the ABUS, download an unofficial checksheet at http://mcsd.cgc.maricopa.edu/advising.xls.

ASU Transfer Students

For business students transferring to the ASU beginning Fall 2006, GBS220 transfers as MAT 211 Mathematics for Business Analysis.   Students should no longer take MAT 172 Finite Math.

ASU at Tempe W. P. Carey

Admission to the professional program in business at W. P. Carey is highly competitive.  We urge students to maintain a high GPA in the "skills courses" required to gain admission.  GBS220 counts as the MAT211 skills course and GBS221 counts as the ECN221 skills course.

Those students planning to earn business degrees from ASU W. P. Carey face strict application deadlines.   Transfer students must complete their essays and applications by early September for Spring admittance and by early February for Summer and Fall admittance.  ASU's W. P. Carey School of Business gives prospective students approximately a 10 day window to apply.  Watch the ASU Tempe advising website for application availability dates.  (Note: W. P. Carey has offered additional application opportunities for Fall admission.  In 2005, they offered both a May and July transfer opportunity.  In 2006, they offered a May transfer opportunity.)    Try to attend one of the professional program applications workshops.

ASU at Polytechnic Morrison School of Management and Agribusiness

Business programs at ASU Polytechnic are no longer part of the W. P. Carey College of Business and are now under the umbrella of the Morrison School of Management and Agribusiness.   Admission requirements for the Morrison school are similar to W. P. Carey (skills courses, SAT scores, etc.).  However, Morrison has more liberal application deadlines and GPA/SAT requirements.  The Morrison School maintains an advising website here.

Other Universities

See an advisor for information if you are transferring out-of-state or to other Phoenix area universities such as ASU West (Accountancy, Global Business, Leadership and International Management), NAU (Management in Paradise Valley and other majors in Flagstaff), Grand Canyon University (Glendale), Ottawa (various sites in Maricopa county), University of Phoenix (various sites in Maricopa county and online), Wayland Baptist University (Avondale), and Western International University (various sites in Maricopa county).  Special note: Recently, some of these universities have developed special programs that allow you to take an extra semester or two of courses at the community college prior to transfer.  Because you may complete part of your junior year at CGCC, a degree from a private university may be no more costly than a degree from a public university.
